Juliana Villarreal FINALIST'S PROFILE

What is your bag made out of?
the body of the bag is made out of vegetable tanned leather and the handles are made out of a resin encapsulation of scraped plastic such as PET bottles and plastic caps

From where do you source your materials?
the veg tanned leather comes from an environmentally responsible local tannery committed to the care of the resources of its surroundings, the plastic was taken from a recycling bank in my community

What is your design inspiration & why is working with green/eco friendly products important to you? Are there Instagram accounts you find inspiring?
ever since i started my design journey i've always enjoyed experimenting with interesting materials and bringing supplies from opposite environments to what i'm currently doing.Applying unusual elements to leather goods is a differential i want my brand to have and manufacturing with recycled material is an added value that also contributes to reduce the amount of waste we make, I consider that one person's trash is another person's treasure and that's the thought that inspired me to make this bag.

Bag Description
the "Summer In The City Bag" is an artisanal piece from Maniartica Design, the black veg tanned leather body is very minimalistic in order to bring all the attention to the focal point of the accessory: the handles, when exposed to sunlight give a stained glass effect but it's actually a resin encapsulation of different kinds of pink and green scrapes of plastic, the retail price is around $95 USD
