Do you currently have your own brand or collection?
Yes, I currently have my own brand and my own collection. The most recent collection is Eva which was inspired by the casual, free, and enigmatic woman who loves comfort.
What is your personal aesthetic and does it influence your design?
My personal aesthetic is based on using color as a tool to transform women emotions. I focus on moving details like fringes and I am inspired by women who build the world and female artisans who work with yarn in different colors and use several contrasts, as well as natural and synthetic fibers. All of this results in sophisticated, bold, and feminine pieces.
Why did you decide on this design? How does it fit into the theme of self love? What does that mean to you?
I decided to make this because it is a crossbody bag that one can wear across her body or carrying it using the handgrip for a determined and confident woman. Kintsugi portrays three determinant pillars of a woman self-love: 1.Self-acceptance, 2. Self-reparation, and 3. Unlimited love. Kintsugi -the japanese technique of repairing broken pottery- is inspired by the fact that both the cracks and repairs are part of an object's history, therefore they should be shown. Because of this, Kintsugi has ââ¬Åcracks and repairsââ¬Â that represent a woman's journey. As a result of all of this, the bag carrier will see her life portrayed by the handbag and its beauty disregarding its ââ¬Åwounds.ââ¬Â Self-love to me means accepting myself as I am, with flaws and strengths, and seeing my failures as opportunities for growth. Putting myself first, second, and third in life. In conclusion, it is the ability to appreciate myself in a holistic way by taking care of my body, spirit, and emotions.
Why did you select these particular materials to work for your sketch?
I chose shimmer leather because it is a warm material that easily transforms and changes with light or darkness, just like a woman. I chose a metallic handgrip because it expresses the hand strength to create new things, and the chain because it shows how experiences and dreams are weaved and connected.
