2018 Finalist Erika McKelvey Erika Lynn

How does your bag relate to the Macy's customer?
My handbags have a fun and fashionable sophistication to them. Each product displays a timeless elegance that will fit the working woman, casual outings, and glamorous social events. My handbags can be used every day or as a go-to for an island getaway. The bright colors and bold designs of the Erika Lynn Collection make my handbags a perfect bold accessory to dress up a little black dress, or jeans and sandals. The timeless designs of Erika Lynn are establishing me in the luxury leather accessory industry. My emphasis on quality from start to finish, as well as my incorporation of exotic leathers, is helping Erika Lynn Brand standout.

What makes your bag stand out from other bags at Macy's?
The Trade Winds Satchel exudes timeless sophistication with an island flair. It has a clean, crisp, polished style while displaying a bold design. A magnetic snap closure and two interior hanging pockets give security and convenience to this highly functional bag. With its elegant construction, strong leather handles, and adjustable leather cross-body strap, the Trade Winds satchel satisfies the woman who is always on-the-go, with only one mission in mind: to experience life to the fullest.

What brands do you identify with at Macy's? Do you see your bags retailing side-by-side with them?
I see Erika Lynn selling alongside Patricia Nash. We have similar concepts, being inspired by travels, while using old world techniques such as hand-cutting and hand-embossed logos, but different styles and leathers; therefore, our designs would sell well together. Much of my designs use exotic leathers, so they would pair well selling along with Brahmin, whose designs use embossed exotic leathers. For those who love the texture, but desire authentic exotic leathers rather than embossed,Erika Lynn would be the perfect choice.Erika Lynn uses genuine exotic leathers, including python, fish, ostrich, alligator, and lizard.

How could you benefit from Macy's Workshop?
As a female entrepreneur in a highly competitive industry, I would like to gain a better understanding of how to identify and reach my customer, as well as improve upon my techniques when working with buyers, and learn to anticipate opportunities while managing buyer expectations. Building my brand message and creating a better execution of that vision is also where I would like to improve my understanding. I would benefit by learning how to identify and work with new, emerging trends and growth opportunities. Finally, increasing my knowledge of calculations, terminology, and better understanding of the formulas would allow me to have a stronger comprehension on how to analyze and make needed adjustments to my business performance.
