Indre Jakumaite FINALIST'S PROFILE

What was your inspiration for this bag?
Inspiration for this bag came from vibrant and lively London summer. I wanted to create a simple small clutch in many bright colours so you can choose a different colour every day. This bag comes in 10 colours - yellow, red, blue, coral, black, brown, fuchsia, dusky pink, purple and 2 two tone colour combinations - mint and lilac and dusky pink and lilac. The idea was put a gorgeous luxurious leather and colour at the heart of the design, hence the simple shapes and minimal hardware of the handbag. The collection was called 'Flirtatiously Colourful' as it was designed for a fun and adventurous urban woman who loves style and elegance.

What are the retail price-points of your line?
Mid point, entry designer 200 - 500

Do you change your silhouettes and materials every season?
No, we don't change collections every seasons but we do introduce new colours.

What other handbag designers have inspired you?
Anya Hindmarch is my idol when it comes to design and Mansur Gavriel when it comes to brand-building.

What makes your line innovative and worth of overall?
Colour + attitude. We actively promote 'flirtatiously colourful' attitude and way of life. Also, I believe some of our followers are inspired by the story behind the brand. I come from recruitment background and started the label with no training or knowledge. I worked hard to learn everything there is to learn about designing and making handbags and also what it takes to build a business from scratch. Our label was selected for Inspire and Mentor programme by Marie Claire last year and it has given us a great exposure and help. We are slowly building our local stockists and hoping to start introducing Alexa Jay outside UK soon. Winning this award would give us a great recognition and feedback before tackling the US market.
