Charlotte Lefebvre - Bush Princess

Finalist of the The FEED Most Socially Responsible Handbag

2014 Finalist Charlotte Lefebvre Bush Princess

Charlotte Lefebvre FINALIST'S PROFILE

What country are your bags manufactured?

Please explain how your bags are socially responsible?
The Bush Princess handbags are ethically handmade in Kenya. We train our employees so they can produce the highest quality possible. We also pay them a fair wage and cover their health insurance, a gigantic help in Africa. We employ Maasai women to create beautiful beaded artwork on our handbags to keep their culture alive.

Do you work with local/native artisans to design your bags?
Yes. The Maasai ladies we are working with teach youngsters how to create luxurious beading work on our handbags. They are encouraged to give us ideas on colors and designs on each work they do.

Working Conditions - Are the manufacturers/artisans that are being employed being treated humanely, of age, and working in safe and acceptable conditions? Please explain.
Our employees work in the best condition, our workshop is open to the public: no children are allowed to work and each employee is paid above the minimal salary to insure them a good lifestyle.

Why did you choose this country to have your bags made and what made you decided to give back?
Kenya has some amazing artisans and beautiful people that are extremely talented. Unfortunately, the level of poverty is very high, it was important for us to help local artisans by giving back whilst creating luxurious handbags.
